Consultation has concluded
Collaborating with local Business Improvement Areas (BIAs), the City of Cambridge implemented road closures from May to October 2023. This initiative, part of the Seasonal Road Closure program, aimed to create safer pedestrian spaces, free from vehicle concerns. This move allowed numerous businesses to expand their outdoor areas, providing more room for people to enjoy walking, shopping, and dining.
The road closures that took place from May to October included:
• Queen Street East in Hespeler, between Guelph Avenue and Tannery Street (Each weekend, Friday to Sunday)
• Main Street in Downtown Cambridge, between Ainslie Street and Water Street (24/7 closure)
We want to thank all those who participated in the 2023 Seasonal Road Closure Program Surveys. The Key outcomes from both the Downtown Cambridge and the Hespeler Village Road Closure Program Surveys were:
Downtown Cambridge:
Total Respondents: 541
Positive Perception: 79% (429) of respondents view the closure positively.
Desire for Continuation: 81% (437) express interest in the closure continuing.
Closure Length Preferences: 62% (337) prefer a full summer closure.
Hespeler Village:
Total Respondents: 704
Positive Perception: 74% (521) of respondents view the closure positively.
Desire for Continuation: 75% (528) express interest in the closure continuing.
Closure Length Preferences: 46% (324) prefer Friday to Sunday closure.
