People enjoying the water play area and skate park

We are planning more action sport parks across Waterloo to complement the popular flagship skate park in uptown, on Father David Bauer Drive.

We've selected three locations for these new parks:

  • Albert McCormick Community Centre - skate park
  • Stork Family YMCA/John M. Harper Branch Library - skate park
  • RIM Park - skate park and bike park

Albert McCormick Central Plaza

We are happy to report that construction of the Albert McCormick Central Plaza, including the new skate park will begin this summer-fall 2020 and will be ready for use by spring 2021.

The new park will include:

  • A 5000 square foot sized skateboard park
  • Water-jet plaza
  • BankshotTM basketball court
  • All-ages climbing structure
  • New gathering/seating areas

The picture below shows the site plan for the Albert McCormick Community Centre Central Plaza and Skate Park. The listed features are:

  1. Library parking
  2. Stormwater management
  3. Public art feature
  4. Splash pad
  5. Accessible basketball
  6. Climbing structure
  7. Skate park

Additional action sport parks

The RIM Park West Bike Park is planned for construction in 2021. It will feature two separate pump-tracks, one for beginners and one for intermediate to advanced users. More detailed plans for this new bike park will be available in fall 2020.

After 2021, two more skate parks will be added: one at the Stork Family YMCA/John M. Harper Branch Library and the other at RIM Park East. More detailed plans for these parks will be available by spring 2021.

The plans for all four parks are based on input from over 300 people! Thank you all for your contributions!

Here are the designs

These documents show the proposed designs for the bike park and skate parks. Thank you to everyone who provided input into the designs. We will continue to update the community as we move forward on the construction of these sites.

Public art consultation - Closed

Thank you for providing your feedback on the new piece of Public Art that will be installed as part of the Albert McCormick Community Centre exterior upgrades.

Couches, chesterfields, and seating areas are the cornerstone of homes. As part of the planned upgrades, two community benches will be crafted in consultation with the community. These benches will resemble seating, like a couch or chesterfield, which one would find in a home.

Your feedback will be included in the request for proposals that will be issued to artists, and will be used to create the community benches in the seating area.

We will update the community as this project develops.
