Help design two new public parkettes in Northdale!

The Northdale neighbourhood is located between Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of Waterloo, in an area bounded by University Avenue West, Phillip Street, Columbia Street West and King Street North. In 2012, the city developed a Northdale land use and community improvement plan study. The goal of the this study is to revitalize the area into a vibrant and sustainable neighbourhood. With this in mind, the city is now in the early stages of designing and building two new smaller park spaces -- parkettes-- in the Northdale neighbourhood.

Sunview Parkette, located at Sunview Street and Hickory Street West, and Hemlock Parkette, located at Hemlock Street West and Hickory Street West are the locations of two new public spaces. The intent is for these spaces to have an elevated urban design feel and allow for a variety of passive activities such as informal gathering, potential for small event programming, work and study space, and open green space. The space should integrate recommendations from previous plans and studies for the Northdale area and should reflect the city's reputation as a centre for innovation and inventiveness. Most importantly, these small park spaces, known as parkettes, are to be inviting, safe and reflective of the community needs and priorities.
