In 2019, the City of Kitchener initiated a formal traffic calming review for Holborn Drive. This was in response to resident concerns about road safety on Holborn Drive. As a result of this review, the following traffic calming measures were installed on Holborn Drive in 2021 after resident support and Council approval:

  • A pedestrian connection located at Holborn Court and Holborn Drive
  • A mid-block roadway narrowing located between Old Chicopee Drive and Holborn Court
  • A speed cushion located between Mayfair Court and Blackfriars Place
  • A speed cushion located between Coventry Drive and Carnaby Crescent

In June 2022, we collected traffic volume and speed data on Holborn Drive. That data was compared to the data taken prior to the initiation of the traffic calming review in 2018.

Speed comparison on Holborn Drive - Before and after installation of traffic calming measures

* The 85th percentile speed is the speed at which 85% of vehicles are traveling at or below.

**EB - Eastbound Traffic and WB - Westbound Traffic

***Transportation Services monitored volumes throughout Kitchener during the Covid-19 pandemic. While traffic volumes initially fell by as much as 50%, volumes had returned to approximately 95% of pre-pandemic volumes by late 2020. Transportation Services will continue to monitor volumes on Holborn Drive

Neighbourhood participation has been essential throughout the traffic calming process. At this point, we would like your feedback on the effects of the traffic calming on Holborn Drive. The survey is located below this section in the Survey tool.

Please complete the follow-up survey below before Monday, November 21, 2022.
