MegG3 months agoZero Waste Kitchener
Work towards a waste free city by requiring all buildings to have organics pick up. Where possible, use organic waste to capture energy. Send out information to all residents about what and how to recycle properly to reduce contamination in the recycling and to increase the percent of items that actually get recycled. Encourage private companies and buildings to provide information to their tenants regarding their waste requirements. Eliminate or ban single use plastics where it is in the City's power to do so.

Right now it can be difficult to find information on what events and cultural activities are going on in Waterloo Region, which can make it feel like there's nothing going on at all. If the various local organizations that aggregate event listings (the cities, The Record, Snapd, etc) could collaborate to create a shared, comprehensive listing of events, that could help visitors, students, and other people new to the region connect with local culture and understand just how much the region has to offer.

Incentivize commercial property owners to rent out their space to independent & local businesses and organizations, rather than letting it sit vacant. Figure out why so many storefronts are currently unoccupied, and take action to make Kitchener's downtown and other commercial hubs as vibrant and lively as they can be.

More organized construction projects. Less destruction of downtown by highrise condos . More efficient infrastructure- why are buses AND LRT on the same streets? More trees, green spaces, trails and bike lanes (like in Waterloo) I hate this city's government and would move if I could afford to.

Waterloo region's leadership in technology was jump-started by the U of W's exceptional tech-focused educational programs. However, in Waterloo region, art and design education remains on the periphery. Greater support for art and design education could help local businesses connect with needed talent as well as encouraging development of local art and culture.
