Johnny Cash entertained a couple of times during this period. My Brother Jack and I , The Coulson Brothers/Country Music Makers had a local - Toronto vocal group band at the time. I am including a photo of Curt & Jack Coulson backstage outside the dressing room at the Galt arena.

    How many Friday nights…

by J. Walker, about 2 years ago

How many Friday nights did my wife and I enjoy a dinner out and then join the crowds in the stands to watch a Hornets game? Many. Almost as much fun was following them to other rinks. Many familiar faces sitting behind the home net, the odd famous name, great (and bad) plays, laughs, some occasional sorrow. Friday night date night is not nearly as much fun these days. Thanks to every player who donned the black and yellow, their coaches, managers and volunteers. You made life fun and we will be fans forever. Go Hornets!

    Ernie Robson

by John Beechey, about 2 years ago
A fixture at the Arena was Ernie the best ticket taker in the Province. Ernie was such a supporter of the Arena and Hockey teams. I remember Ernie going to Europe with The Hornets and it being one of the thrills of his life. He was a great ambassador for Galt/Cambridge.

Behind the scenes before the doors open

by Dean Bevan, about 2 years ago

Before the doors open staff spend over 10 days building and painting the ice for another season. The details that go into all the hard work they do are never seen until the finish sheet of painted ice. Over the years technology and tools have helped create every detail. Can’t thank all the staff enough for all there hard work to keep Galt arena as one of the best rinks in the world.

    A great place to skate!

by ThirtyNine, about 2 years ago

When I first moved to Canada almost fifteen years ago, I lived in Galt. I really wanted to play hockey, but I was extremely inexperienced at ice skating. I would go to the open skate at Galt Arena Gardens on weekdays sometimes and practice skating. It was great because there weren't a lot of people. I would put my loonies in the self-pay box and head out to practice stopping and crossovers. I would skate from one end to the other and stop on each of the lines. Then I would practice crossovers around the center logo to the sounds... Continue reading

    Exhibition game vs Sweden

Galt Arena holds more memories than I have the time to write about. Skating Races, Roller-skating, French Fries, the list is endless. I will never forget the feeling of playing Juvenile in early 1978 when our Allstar team had the opportunity to play a touring team from Sweden. The building was packed and loud, with spot lights, public address announcing and I will never forget that night as long as I live. (hopefully)

Aside from the neighbourhood I grew up in, there is no other place in the City that provides me with as many good... Continue reading

    Growing up in Galt

by Mike L., about 2 years ago

My family moved here from the GTA in 2002 and I've been going to most JR B games since then. I remember playing mini sticks in the lower hallways during the games with all my friends. I'll never forget the back to back winterhawks cups in 2005-06 and 2006-07

    Industrial Hockey Championship

by Ken Moyes, about 2 years ago
My best memory was when I was in my late teenage years. I was playing industrial hockey for Savage Shoe Limited in the Galt Industrial League. We played at the Galt Arena Gardens which we called the “Shade Street Arena”. The season was the 1960-1961 hockey season. We won the Industrial League Championship that year! Very exciting for our team which was made up of all local players.
