Update on project status for Stage 1

As we approach the Spring 2023, we wanted to let you know the city’s hired road constructor, Gedco Excavating Ltd., will be carrying over the following work to be completed.

  • Concrete curbs are to be installed on April 17. Concrete sidewalk and driveway aprons are to be installed the week of April 24.
  • Where temporary asphalt was placed for driveways or driveway ramps, this will be removed and reinstated the week of May 1.
  • After concrete and asphalt work is complete, landscaping will follow with topsoil and sod the week of May 1 into the week of May 8.
  • Once sod is placed there is a 60-day maintenance/warranty period by the road constructor. A letter will be issued to residents from the city once sod is placed outlining the 60-day maintenance/warranty period of sod.

All the above-mentioned works are weather dependent, and these dates may be adjusted based on the weather conditions in the coming weeks. If there are any major changes to the scheduled items mentioned above additional notices will be distributed at that time.

In the summer of 2023, the city will perform a check of all items and note any items that are unsatisfactory, which we will track for the contractor to address accordingly. Our construction inspector wears a white hard helmet and is on site full-time. The inspector is the first person to contact on site. If you require special access to your property for any reason, please give the inspector enough notice so your request can be accommodated, if possible.

We appreciate your continued patience throughout this project. If you have any questions concerning this matter, please do not hesitate to contact the city’s Project Manager at phone number 519-741-2200 ext. 7812 or email at jeff.riedl@kitchener.ca .

The construction is now complete, and the project has entered the maintenance phase. This means we will inspect all aspects of the work done to ensure that it meets our standards. We will also address any deficiencies. Once this phase is complete, we will add a final layer of surface asphalt. This is usually about two years from the start of maintenance. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at 519-741-2345 or engineering@kitchener.ca
