Slow Streets

We initiated the Slow Streets program in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This program helps provide a safer space for active transportation. It also provides more space so pedestrians can step onto the roadway to pass other pedestrians using the sidewalk.

On a Slow Street, we install temporary barriers and signs to discourage through traffic. These streets still allow vehicle access, but it is intended to be for local residents, deliveries, and emergency response only.

With less traffic on the roadway, it is safer for residents to use the roadway for cycling or physical distancing when walking. The program does not intend to create spaces on public roadways for gathering.
