Don't Assume Anything

Most of my close calls have occurred when people around me do not use their signal. It's really scary, especially on the highway when you almost get side swiped by a car because they haven't signaled and they try to merge into your lane while you are still in the way.

However last year I was in an accident as I exited the round about. I was going straight through a round about and got pinned in the back-end of the car. The problem was that the driver of the other car assumed that I was going all the way around and entered the round about when I was going straight. If I could make some kind of universal advice it would be to never assume anything. Don't enter an intersection under the assumption other cars are going to do one thing when they could hit you if they do the other, don't assume people will always use their signal. Proceed with caution and don't get cocky.
