Welcome to the project page for the West Side multi-use trail, in the Clair Hills neighbourhood of the City of Waterloo.

The proposed West Side multi-use trail will be approximately 450 metres, connecting St. Moritz Avenue to the eastern boundary of Generation Park (formerly known as the West Side Employment Lands, near Costco) to the west. The trail provides a connection to the future neighbourhood bikeway on St. Moritz Avenue and Montpellier Drive as part of the City of Waterloo’s Transportation Master Plan Update, and a future community multi-use trail as part of the City’s West Side Employment Lands Urban Design Guidelines.

The City has retained AECOM to provide engineering services for the design of this project.

The objective of the asphalt trail is to provide a mid-block connection between the existing residential, institutional, and green space areas east of the Hydro One corridor to the developing commercial, residential and industrial areas part of Generation Park. The trail will form an extension of the existing multi-use trail network east of St. Moritz Avenue that extends to the north and east to Keats Way and Brandenburg Boulevard. The new trail will serve pedestrians, cyclists and other active modes by making a key connection in the City’s off-road trail network. The trail will connect to proposed multi-use trails along Copper Street and will connect to the future green walkway part of Generation Park east-west connection through the site. This will provide key connections across the Hydro One corridor to the existing communities to the east & west.

The trail alignment shown below is designed based on existing topography and accessibility.

If interested, please take the time to provide feedback in our Comments section. Feedback in our comment section will be open until March 3, 2023.

Details regarding this project will be added and updated in the News Feed section of this site as the project progresses.

Please be advised that the City of Waterloo intend to construct a multi-use trail (MUT) along the Hydro One Corridor. The MUT will extend approximately 450m between St. Moritz Avenue in the east, and the west boundary of Generation Park, formerly known as the West Side Employment Lands (WSEL) to the west. The map below illustrates the extents of the proposed works.

The intent of the project is to provide a mid-block connection between the existing residential, institutional, and green space areas east of the Hydro One corridor to the developing commercial, residential and industrial areas in Generation Park.

The City has retained AECOM to provide engineering services for the design of this project. The construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in the summer of 2023.

The proposed design drawings along with additional information related to the project will be available online for review and comment beginning on January 30, 2022. The drawings and information can be accessed on this site. Information available on the site includes:

    • Background information on the project
    • A project schedule
    • A section for providing comments

The public will be able to provide feedback on the proposed design until February 17, 2023. This feedback will be taken into consideration by the Project Team prior to finalizing the construction drawings.
