We want to hear from you about how you want to vote in the 2022 municipal and school board elections. Some of the options include mail-in ballots, online voting and voting by phone. In the survey you can also share your feedback about your experience voting in earlier municipal elections. On the Ideas board, you can add your ideas for how to improve the voting experience.

Your feedback will help us make voting easier for residents and ensure flexibility for any future COVID-19 restrictions.

All voting methods are required under the Municipal Act to maintain individual vote secrecy, be accessible to all voters and treat voters and candidates fairly and consistently.

About the 2022 Kitchener election

The 2022 municipal and school board elections will take place on October 24, 2022 across Ontario. During the municipal election in Kitchener, you can vote for a representative for these offices:

  • City of Kitchener Mayor
  • City of Kitchener Ward Councillor
  • Regional Chair
  • Regional Councillors
  • School Board Trustee(s)

These elected officials will make important decisions affecting Kitchener, the Region of Waterloo and local school boards.

    Thank you to everyone who provided their feedback and suggestions as we prepare for the 2022 municipal election. The survey results are now available.

    Two reports were brought to Council. In the first report, Internet voting was recommended for the advanced voting period of the 2022 municipal election (Nov. 8, 2021). A follow-up report provided Council with additional information regarding mail-in ballots (Nov. 22, 2021). To view the reports and meeting recordings, visit calendar.kitchener.ca/council

    In the end, Council did not approve any alternative voting methods. We will proceed by exploring improvements to the in-person voting experience using paper ballots and tabulators.
