We are rehabilitating the existing Ottawa Street Trunk Sanitary Sewer. This extends from Old Chicopee Drive to Dreger Avenue and Graber Place.
A section of existing sanitary trunk sewer on Ottawa Street North experienced a failure in Feb. 2022. This happened near the intersection of Ottawa Street North and River Road East. Our emergency operations staff replaced 24 meters of the existing concrete pipe (675mm diameter). Their observations at the time raised concerns about the entire sewer. That sewer extends from:
- the start of the gravity sewer on Ottawa Street North near the intersection with Old Chicopee Drive
- to Montgomery Road after crossing the expressway
- through Dreger Avenue and Graber Place
In response, we did a study of the sanitary trunk sewer. We observed severe concrete corrosion in the existing sanitary sewers and maintenance holes. These were along Ottawa Street North, Dreger Avenue, and Graber Place. The study recommends we rehabilitate using trenchless methods, including:
- full length cured-in-place-pipe (CIPP) lining for the sewers
- spray‐lining the maintenance holes
Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in April 2025. The estimated completion date is November 2025.
