Update on Project Status for Stage 1 & 2

As we approach the end of the 2022 construction season, we wanted to let you know what the road constructor, Gedco Excavating Ltd., will be completing this year and what will be carried over to the spring of 2023.

Stage 1

  • Asphalt will be complete ahead of curb to provide hard surface for winter maintenance – curbs and sidewalk will be installed in spring 2023 and a second lift of asphalt to complete the road at that time.
  • As part of the 2022 work, temporary asphalt will be placed for driveways & driveway ramps, this will be removed and reinstated with concrete aprons in the spring of 2023; upon concrete suppliers and/or asphalt suppliers opening for the construction season and upon favourable weather conditions.
  • Landscaping will follow with topsoil and sod. It is unknown when sod is available in the spring of 2023, but when it becomes available, we expect our road constructor to start work spring 2023. Once sod is placed there is a 60-day maintenance/warranty period by the road constructor. A letter will be issued to residents from the city, once sod is placed, outlining the 60-day maintenance/warranty period of sod.

Stage 2

  • All Stage 2 work in its entirety will be carried over until weather conditions allow in the Spring 2023
  • In the spring of 2023, the city will perform a check of all items and note any items that are unsatisfactory, which we will track for the contractor to address accordingly.

We appreciate your continued patience throughout this project. If you have any questions concerning this matter, please do not hesitate to contact the city’s Project Manager at phone number 519-741-2200 ext. 7812 or email at jeff.riedl@kitchener.ca .

The construction is now complete, and the project has entered the maintenance phase. This means we will inspect all aspects of the work done to ensure that it meets our standards. We will also address any deficiencies. Once this phase is complete, we will add a final layer of surface asphalt. This is usually about two years from the start of maintenance. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at 519-741-2345 or engineering@kitchener.ca
