How we help newly planted trees thrive

July 3, 2026

While most trees are planted in the spring and fall, some planting also takes place during the summer. Before any tree goes into the ground, it's cared for with a detailed watering and planting plan designed to give it the best chance of success.

Trees are watered while waiting to be planted, again at planting, and then on a regular schedule for the next three years. We also use watering bags where appropriate, add compost and mulch to help keep the soil cool and retain moisture, and apply beneficial fungi that help roots absorb water more effectively.

Our planting methods follow current research and best practices, and we use container-grown trees, which establish more successfully after planting. These approaches have helped achieve high survival rates, including a 95% success rate during summer planting as part of this project.

We're committed to thoughtful planting and ongoing care to help ensure trees can grow and thrive for years to come.
