Responding to Climate Change

Our community faces challenges due to global warming — hotter temperatures, heavier rains, severe storms and increasing pollution. Together with community, we are working to respond to climate change and generate more green energy.

Recent Progress

The Region of Waterloo monitors and responds to emergencies across the community. This includes floods, winter storms, extreme heat and cold, air quality impacts from increased wildfire activity Canada wide and more. The chart below captures our responses to climate emergencies plus other events like utility disruptions, gas leaks and security matters. This includes instances of both enhanced monitoring, and small and larger scale emergencies in the community. From January to July this year we have responded to 29 emergencies already.
