June 5, 2026

City of Waterloo is holding a community meeting regarding the redevelopment of 250 Lincoln Road.

The purpose of this meeting is to provide information about the future redevelopment of 250 Lincoln Road for affordable housing, and allow residents to ask questions and share their perspectives.

Meeting Details

Date: June 18
Time: 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Location: Lincoln Heights Public School gymnasium

The City purchased the former St. Columba Church property, located at 250 Lincoln Road with the intention of using the lands for affordable housing. Housing affordability remains a critical challenge for Waterloo residents and the lack of affordable housing options negatively impacts both individual and community health and wellbeing as well as economic growth and prosperity for the city as a whole.

To address housing affordability challenges, Council adopted an Affordable Housing Strategy in 2023. Use of existing municipally owned lands and the purchase of new lands for affordable housing are two actions in the Strategy. The purchase and redevelopment of 250 Lincoln Road for affordable housing creates more housing supply and improves housing affordability and choice in close proximity to schools, transit and commercial services. New housing on the site would also help the City achieve its Provincial housing targets and affordable housing target that 30 per cent of all new housing units be affordable.

We recognize this proposal has generated significant interest and a range of opinions within the community. This meeting is intended to provide a respectful forum where residents, City staff, and other interested parties can exchange information and engage in constructive dialogue.

Representatives of the land use planning consulting team and municipal staff will be present to provide an overview of the process to redevelop the site and answer questions. Community feedback gathered during the meeting will help inform the planning and design process.

There will be more opportunities in future to learn about or have input into this project.
