Construction begins May 30, 2025

15 May 2025

The City of Kitchener has given Regional Sewer and Watermain Ltd. the contract to rebuild Broadview Avenue. Construction will begin around May 20, 2025, and should be finished by September 2025.

The Contractor will start the project with the setup of their temporary watermain and by completing the pre-condition survey.

Who to contact

An Engineering Consultant is managing the project and should be your first point of contact if you have questions, concerns, or need special access to your home. Their contact information is listed at the end of this letter.

The City's Project Manager is also available as a key contact. Additionally, a Construction Inspector will be on-site daily while work is happening. You can recognize them by their white hardhat and speak to them anytime.

For emergencies after hours, call the 24-hour Contact Centre at 519-741-2345.

Pre-Condition Inspection of Structures

Before construction starts, the City offers inspections for homes that may be affected. This helps if any damage claims arise. The inspections will be done by Englobe Corp. If they haven’t already, they will contact you within the next few days to arrange for this survey. This assessment includes checking the inside and outside of buildings. Apartments in high-rise buildings will have only the ground floor inspected.

If you do not want an inspection, you can decline when the Englobe representative calls. However, if you later decide to get one, you will have to pay for the extra costs.

Vibrations during construction

You will likely feel some vibrations during the routine operation of construction equipment. However, studies have shown that these vibrations are much less severe than the vibration level likely to cause structural damage. We recommend that you remove light, fragile or delicate objects from shelves when construction activity is taking place.

Should you experience any problems during construction, please contact the Project Manger immediately. They will address or direct your concern to the contractor if needed. If immediate action is needed, such as an issue with your services and City Staff or Representatives are not immediately available, you are welcome to contact the contractor directly.

Should situations arise during or after this construction project, the contact information and telephone numbers are provided for your convenience.

On street parking

Residents will receive temporary parking permits, allowing them to park on certain streets longer than usual, including overnight. These permits must be displayed on your dashboard. Make sure to park only in allowed areas to avoid interfering with construction.

Bylaw Enforcement is aware of these parking changes. Illegal parking and safety violations will be enforced. For parking enforcement, call 519-741-2345. If you have any questions, ask the site inspector.
