Visualizing the Future Workshop Activity

In November 2025, the project team hosted two workshops to present a draft future secondary plan concept including: where we live and work, where we gather and play, and how we move around. These events have now passed.

Project Description

The City of Cambridge is developing a Secondary Plan for the community of Preston, as shown in Figure 1. The Secondary Plan will bring forward a focused approach to planning for future growth and development in Preston over the next 25 years, and establish the vision and goals for planning for a thriving community.

A Secondary Plan is being developed for Preston as one of the community core areas in Cambridge where significant growth is anticipated in years to come, as identified in the City’s Official Plan. With this Secondary Plan, the City will be able to plan for Preston at a more detailed level and ensure that the needs of existing and future community members can be met, with the range of housing types, community facilities, and infrastructure needed for people to live, work, and play in the community.

    • Round 1: What is the project about and how can you get involved?
  • Phase 2: Community Visioning and Opportunities for Growth
    • Round 2: What are the things we need to consider in planning for the future?
  • Phase 3: Visualizing the Future: Secondary Plan Concept
    • Round 3: What could Preston look like in the future?
  • Phase 4: Secondary Plan and Official Plan Amendment
    • Round 4: How do we achieve the vision for growth?
This figure illustrates the 4 planned phases of engagement for this project as described above.
