Increasing the tree canopy in Chandler Mowat

In many areas of Kitchener, trees and the benefits they provide are inequitably distributed. That means that some neighbourhoods are missing out on some of the many benefits that trees can provide to help communities thrive. This includes:

  • shade in the summer
  • food security
  • climate change resilience
  • cleaner air and water
  • sense of wellbeing

Community Canopy is a partnership between Reep Green Solutions and the City of Kitchener that aims to increase tree canopy in those areas within the city.

We have highlighted the Chandler Mowat neighbourhood for our 2024 pilot project (map). This neighbourhood has low canopy coverage as compared to Kitchener’s average. Our aim is to increase the tree canopy through caring and planting trees where residents desire them most.

We are developing a community plan that will guide where and what kind of trees we plant in Chandler Mowat. The plan will help increase the tree canopy in this neighbourhood. Tell us where you would most like to see new trees planted or where there is a tree to be cared for.

Please note that we cannot guarantee that a tree will be planted or cared for in the exact locations you tell us about if technical requirements are not met.

    How to help

There are two ways you can help us with that plan: answer a survey or plant a pin on a map.

    Answer the survey

Tell us what is important to you when planting new trees. You can also apply to have a free tree planted on your private property.

    Plant a pin

Tell us where you want us to plant a new tree or care for an existing one.
