Connected Kitchener is the City of Kitchener's study to create a new Transportation and Mobility Plan. This will help our city move towards a transportation system that is more reliable, fair, environmentally friendly, and efficient over the next 25 years. The plan will consider the needs of everyone whether they walk, bike, take transit, drive, use small vehicles like scooters, or move goods by truck.

Connected Kitchener will support the City’s goals, such as cutting greenhouse gas emissions, making it easier and safer to walk and bike, improving transit, and creating better public spaces. The plan also supports and aligns with Kitchener 2051 by planning a mobility system that enables the land use goals of the Official Plan for the next 25 years.

While the Transportation and Mobility Plan focuses on areas the City of Kitchener is responsible for, it will also work closely with the Region of Waterloo to make sure both governments are working toward the same goals.

In the first phase of the study, we will develop our understanding of transportation needs, issues and opportunities in Kitchener. In later phases, we will share a draft plan that responds to the needs and issues that you will have helped identify.

We want to hear from you about:

  • How you travel around Kitchener for short and long trips
  • What works well and what needs improvement in your travel experience
  • Your thoughts on the draft transportation vision and goals
  • What would encourage you to use transit, cycle, or walk more often
  • Your priorities for improving transportation in the city
  • Key issues the Transportation and Mobility Plan should address
  • Your feedback on the draft recommendations, once they are available.

Your input will inform the final plan by helping us:

  • Identify transportation-related needs, opportunities, and priorities
  • Develop our vision and goals for the plan
  • Design transportation networks, policies and strategies
  • Prioritize recommended infrastructure changes, programs, and services

There will be many opportunities, including:

  • Public Information Centres (PICs): In-person and virtual pop-up events with display boards and informal discussions
  • Online surveys: There will be two rounds of online surveys hosted on Engage Kitchener
  • Interactive mapping: Share location-based input on our digital map
  • Public Review Period: This is a formal opportunity to review and comment on the draft report.

This study follows Phases 1 and 2 of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment, an approved process under the Environmental Assessment Act. The study follows Master Plan Approach 1, which takes a broad assessment at a regional or systems scale and provides support for future investigation of recommended projects.
