Upgrades at Country Hills Park begin construction in late August

27 August 2025

Work will begin in late August at Country Hills Park to make several improvements based on community feedback. These upgrades are designed to make the park more enjoyable for everyone, while also helping to improve water quality and reduce the risk of flooding. The project is part of the City’s efforts to prepare for more frequent and intense storms caused by climate change.

During the construction period, a path will provide access to the community garden. All other trail and park access will be closed for the duration of construction, including the closure of the Balzer Creek bridge. Construction is expected to be completed by late 2026.

New features coming to the park include:

  • Sports courts
  • Shade structure
  • A stone seat wall
  • A stormwater management pond
  • 100+ new trees
  • Improved trails

The final design for Country Hills Park was shaped by community feedback and supports the City’s efforts to prepare for climate change. With funding from the federal Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund, the project includes important infrastructure upgrades to help manage stormwater and reduce flood risks. At the same time, it adds new features that make the park more enjoyable and attractive, contributing to the ongoing beautification of parks and natural spaces across Kitchener.
