Deerpark Crescent Reconstruction: Tree Management and Protection Plan

3 March 2026

This update shares how the City will protect and manage trees during the reconstruction of Deerpark Crescent, from Forest Hill Drive to Forest Hill Drive.

Before the project began, we looked at all the City‑owned trees in the area to decide which ones should stay and which ones need to be removed because of poor health, safety concerns, or limited long‑term benefit to the urban forest. We also identified spots where new trees can be planted.

Our goal is to make decisions that support a healthy, sustainable urban forest for the future.

During construction, we use several methods to protect trees, including:

  • Putting up protective fencing
  • Using special construction techniques, such as tunneling under tree roots
  • Reducing how much we disturb the ground around trees

Below is a map, a list of the trees to be removed, and the locations of new trees to be planted. The contractor will remove marked trees shortly after the work begins. We may also do routine tree maintenance, such as trimming branches lower than:

  • 14 feet (4.3 m) over the road
  • 8 feet (2.4 m) over the sidewalk

If private trees have low branches that hang over the sidewalk or road, those may also be trimmed.

For every new tree planted, the City will provide a watering bag. City staff will fill these bags regularly from May to October for the first two years. Watering is very important for young trees to grow well. We encourage nearby residents to give extra water during dry periods and to water the area around the mulch to help roots grow into the boulevard.
