Digital Kitchener: What’s next?

15 December 2025

We’re excited to share the next steps in Kitchener’s digital journey! Your feedback—along with input from staff and the local tech community—has helped shape where we go from here. Together, we’re focusing on actions that make city services easier to use, more accessible, and responsive to your needs.

What we heard

From community and staff feedback, we identified opportunities in three big areas:

  • Better services for people – Making city services simple and user-friendly.
  • Working together – Partnering with local talent and the community to solve challenges.
  • New ways of working – Building a culture that encourages creativity and bold ideas.

What this could look like

Here are some examples of what’s possible:

  • A seamless digital experience so you can find and access city services anytime, anywhere.
  • Using smart technology—like AI and automation—to make services faster and more efficient.
  • Creating spaces for local innovators, businesses, and organizations to work with us on civic challenges.
  • Ensuring everyone has access to reliable internet, digital skills training, and technology.
  • Turning the Innovation Lab into a hub for collaboration, experimentation, and big ideas.
  • Sharing open, easy-to-use data through public dashboards to promote transparency and innovation.

What’s next

We’ve reviewed these ideas with staff and senior leaders to understand what it will take to make them happen. Next, we’ll refine the opportunities based on internal feedback and bring recommendations to City council in the new year.

These actions reflect priorities shared by staff, residents, and the tech community. Thank you for being part of Kitchener’s digital journey! Together, we’re working to remove digital barriers so everyone can connect, learn, and thrive.
