Final update on the Facility Accessibility Design Standards

17 July 2025

We want to thank everyone who contributed their time, insights, and feedback to the development of the Facility Accessibility Design Standards (FADS).

At this time, the FADS project has been postponed indefinitely. This decision was made to allow us to align our work with the ongoing efforts of the Provincial Design of Public Spaces Standards Development Committee. This committee is currently reviewing and updating Ontario’s accessibility standards under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), with a focus on the built environment and public spaces.

By pausing the project, we aim to ensure that our standards are consistent with upcoming provincial regulations and best practices. We believe this approach will lead to stronger, more effective guidelines that better serve our communities.

If you have questions, contact any member of the FADS project team.
