Construction resumes and groundwater planning complete

July 29, 2026

The additional groundwater testing and planning for the Idlewood Greenway Stormwater Facility are now complete. Construction aims to resume this week.

Before the underground storage tank can be installed, the contractor will set up an enhanced groundwater pumping system. This system helps keep the work area dry during construction. The pump will need to run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, until December 2026.

To help reduce noise, the contractor will:

  • Use quieter, efficient pump equipment where possible
  • Place the equipment as far away from nearby homes as possible
  • Use noise-reducing measures such as fencing, insulation, or similar materials around the equipment

This work is only for the Idlewood Greenway site. It is not related to the Region of Waterloo’s water capacity concerns.

Construction schedule

The contractor has provided a new construction schedule. Key dates include:

  • Underground infrastructure is expected to be completed by December 2026.
  • Landscaping and trail work are expected to be finished by January 2027. This is the new expected construction completion date.
