Idlewood Greenway construction begins next month

28 January 2026

The City of Kitchener has awarded the contract for the construction of a new underground stormwater management facility to T Musselman Excavating. This project will improve water quality in Idlewood Creek and build climate change resilience in the city. The facility will be in the Idlewood Greenway, between Oldfield Dr. and Chartwell Ct. Construction is expected to begin at the end of February or early March.

Pre-construction test pits

Before construction, test pits will be dug in early February in Idlewood Greenway to assess soil and groundwater conditions. This work is expected to take one day. All holes will be filled in during that time.

Pre-construction building surveys

T Musselman Excavating has hired Englobe Corp. to complete pre-condition surveys of properties near the work area. Englobe will send notices to the identified properties to explain the purpose of the surveys and provide the information needed to schedule an appointment. Pre-condition surveys are voluntary.

More updates to come

We will share more information about what to expect during construction in the coming weeks. This will include:

  • Anticipated construction start and end dates
  • Trail closure areas and timelines
  • Measures to minimize the disturbance to neighbouring residents
  • Any impacts to services
