Notice: Groundwater pump testing scheduled this weekend at Idlewood Greenway

June 26, 2026

The Idlewood Greenway Stormwater Management Facility has been on pause to fine tune the groundwater pumping plan. The final step of this process is to run a pump test, which involves the continuous pumping of groundwater over a period of a several days. Once pumped, the groundwater is held in a tank to let any sediment settle out of it. It is then discharged into an existing storm sewer leading to Idlewood Creek.

This work requires a generator and a pump to run over Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28. We expect the test to conclude early next week. The contractor will use noise dampening measures around the generator to make it as quiet as possible. A representative from the contractor will visit the site periodically to ensure that all measures are operating as planned.

Once this test is completed, the contractor will analyze the results and tailor their groundwater management plan accordingly. We expect the contractor to resume construction activities in early July. Note that this work is specific to the Idlewood Greenway site. It is not related to nor has impact on the Region’s water capacity concerns.
