Kitchener Official Plan Statutory Public Meeting, June 1

13 May 2026

We’re holding a public meeting to propose the City of Kitchener’s new Official Plan.

  • Date: June 1, 2026
  • Time: To be determined, once the agenda is published on May 22, 2026
  • Location: Council Chambers, Kitchener City Hall (200 King Street West) or Virtual Meeting

The meeting will take place as part of the Planning and Strategic Initiatives Committee. More information can be found at kitchener.ca/meetings.

About the meeting

The City of Kitchener is creating a new Official Plan that will guide how most land in the city is used. This new plan will replace the current plans from both the Region of Waterloo and the City of Kitchener (from 1994 and 2014).

This public meeting is being held to:

  • Get feedback from the community on the final new Official Plan;
  • Share what people said about the second draft; and,
  • Explain how that feedback has been considered.

For more information about this matter, including information about appeal rights, visit the project page or contact the Kitchener 2051 Project Team by email or phone 519-741-2345 (TTY: 1-866-969-9994).

Next steps

Following the statutory public meeting, there are a few more important steps before Kitchener’s new Official Plan will take effect:

  • Council decision: At this time, it is anticipated City Council will review the plan and vote on whether to adopt it on June 29, 2026.
  • Provincial review: If adopted, the plan is sent to the Province for approval.
  • Public posting: As part of the Province’s approval process the plan is posted on the Environmental Registry of Ontario (ERO) for public comment.
  • Final approval: The Province then makes a final decision to approve the plan as-is or with additional changes.
