Approaches to Growth update + tell us what matters most!

8 August 2025

What matters to you?

Our newest online activity invites you to use points to prioritize emerging directions for Kitchener 2051. Which matter most to you – and why?

We’ve identified 18 emerging directions, which act as guideposts to help us develop detailed, concrete actions. It’s not meant to be an exhaustive list. It focuses on areas that we could use more feedback on. We want to better understand how important and meaningful each of these directions are to you.

About the Approaches to Growth

If you attended a workshop or did our online activity earlier this year, you already know that we’ve been exploring how Kitchener’s neighbourhoods can grow to meet the changing needs of our community. We’ve just shared a new overview of the Approaches to Growth: Nodes and Corridors, New Urban Centres, and Evolving Neighbourhoods.

Approaches to Growth report goes to Council August 11

We will present our report on the Approaches to Growth to the Planning and Strategic Initiatives Committee on Monday, August 11, 2025. The meeting takes place from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

What we heard from residents during phase 3

Our latest “What We Heard” report outlines the engagement opportunities provided between December 2024 and June 2025. It includes an overview and summary of key findings gathered through multiple channels, including right here on Engage Kitchener. Thank you to everyone who took the time to get involved, it’s clear to us how deeply you care about the future of the city.

You have shared thoughtful, passionate comments about what’s important: affordable housing and vibrant neighbourhoods, climate resilience, walkable neighbourhoods, and equitable access to local food, jobs, and green space. As the City begins drafting the new Official Plan, the ideas and priorities you shared will remain front and centre.
