KW Westmount Road Intersection Improvements

Photo showing the existing intersection of Westmount Road and Glasgow Street

The Region of Waterloo is planning roadway improvements to Westmount Road from Highland Road to Erb Street, in Kitchener and Waterloo. The pavement is in need of rehabilitation and other improvements are being considered at the same time to improve traffic conditions and to provide enhanced facilities for cyclists and pedestrians.

These improvements are scheduled to be completed in a series of projects. The first project is planned between Highland Road and Glasgow Street is tentatively scheduled to be completed in 2022. This project was approved by Regional Council in 2018 and includes; road resurfacing, sections of new storm sewer, as well as new multi-use trails on both sides of Westmount Road (to connect cyclists to the bike lane network on Glasgow Street).

We want your input on the second project which is planned between Glasgow Street and Erb Street. It is tentatively scheduled to be completed in 2023. The preferred design for this project generally includes:

  • Resurfacing of the roadway to address the deteriorated pavement condition;
  • Modernization of traffic signals and new left turn lanes at Glasgow Street;
  • Installation of new traffic signals and southbound left turn lane at Union Boulevard; and
  • Replacement of sections of storm sewer where required.

All interested parties are invited to attend an informal “drop-in” Public Consultation Centre (PCC) for this project :
