The Region of Waterloo has selected a new public artwork, “Home Is Where the Heart Is,” by Jah Qube and Phillip Saunders, for the Langs Housing redevelopment at 589 Langs Drive, Cambridge. The call for submissions required a mentor-mentee relationship, emphasizing artists from the BIPOC community to ensure diverse representation in public art. Nearly 700 residents provided feedback on the final concepts, reflecting strong community interest. “Public art makes our neighbourhoods vibrant,” said Regional Chair Karen Redman, highlighting the project’s commitment to affordability and inclusion. Lead Artist Javid JAH noted the significance of celebrating the concept of 'home' within the affordable housing setting. The artwork will have six colourful elements that create a heart shape when viewed from a specific angle, designed with input from local youth, symbolizing community connection.
