About the project

The Region of Waterloo is planning road and bridge improvements along Maryhill Road from St. Charles Street to the Waterloo/Wellington boundary in the Township of Woolwich. The project is being undertaken to improve drainage in the village by replacing an undersized storm sewer, address aging road and bridge infrastructure, and enhance safety and accessibility for all users, including pedestrians and cyclists. Construction is planned to take place in stages between spring 2027 and 2028, following public feedback and project approval by Region of Waterloo Council.

A project team has been established to guide the planning and design of these improvements. The team includes staff from the Region of Waterloo, MTE Consultants, and the Township of Woolwich, working collaboratively to ensure the project responds to technical requirements and community needs.

Proposed improvements include full road reconstruction within the village, upgrades to storm sewers and catch basins, replacement of curbs and driveway accesses, and installation of sidewalks on both sides of the road between St. Charles Street and Notre Dame Avenue. Other features include a pedestrian crossing and traffic median near Notre Dame Avenue, space for roadside parking and cycling, rehabilitation of the Hopewell Creek bridge (including new streetlighting and upgraded walls), guiderail replacements, and roadway and shoulder improvements in the rural section to the Waterloo/Wellington boundary.
