Surface works and driveway access update

September 17, 2026

Starting on or about September 17, 2026, crews will begin preparing for the installation of new concrete curb and gutter along Stage 1 of the Merner Avenue reconstruction project between Krug Street and Chapel Street.

Driveway access during construction

As concrete and road work progresses, driveway access will be unavailable for approximately 3 to 5 weeks.

This work includes:

  • Concrete curb and gutter installation
  • Sidewalk construction
  • Driveway ramp construction
  • Asphalt paving

The length of time that driveway access is unavailable depends on several factors, including:

  • The time needed to complete the work
  • Concrete curing requirements
  • Contractor and subcontractor schedules
  • Weather and other unforeseen conditions

Crews will work as quickly as possible to minimize disruption. Where appropriate, the contractor may install temporary wooden walkways over newly poured concrete to maintain pedestrian access to homes.

On-street parking

Temporary parking permits have been issued to residents affected by construction. These permits allow parking beyond the usual 3-hour limit and overnight on the streets listed on the permit.

Please:

  • Display the permit on your vehicle dashboard.
  • Park only in permitted locations.
  • Do not park in a way that interferes with construction activities.

The project team works closely with By-law Enforcement to identify residents affected by construction. However, parking violations and safety-related concerns will continue to be enforced.

For parking enforcement inquiries, call 519-741-2345.

If you need additional permits or have questions about parking arrangements, please speak with the site inspector or contact me directly.

Accessibility

If you have accessibility requirements, please contact me as soon as possible. We will work with the contractor to provide reasonable accommodations where possible.

Examples may include:

  • Accessible parking arrangements
  • Moving in or out of your residence
  • Special deliveries
  • Other accessibility-related needs

Curbside waste collection

Please write your address on all waste, recycling, and green bin containers and place them at the curb by 6 a.m. on your collection day.

The contractor will coordinate collection and return your containers to your property as soon as reasonably possible after pickup.
