All three design concepts include a parking lot to accommodate increased court usage over time. They also have dedicated pickleball courts to reflect the sport’s growing popularity, and at least one basketball half court. Bike racks are there to support active transportation, and benches are included for comfort. The parking lot and courts will be equipped with lighting to extend their hours of use.

In recent years, the way people use the Montgomery Park courts has changed. We’ve heard before that:

• The existing courts are well-used and need repairs
• Pickleball has become very popular and more space is needed for it
• Basketball is also a favourite activity
• People need more places to park their cars and bikes

We took resident feedback about those changes into account when creating the new designs.

Also, Kitchener City Council recently dedicated more funding to improve sports courts. Thanks to this, we have added new lighting, seating, and bike parking to the designs. This will make the park safer, more accessible, and more enjoyable for everyone.

The draft designs will be shared on this page. We will gather feedback during an in-person workshop in the park and through an online activity. Community input will directly influence the final design of the sports courts. However, elements like parking lot size and location of lighting have been decided. We are also not making changes to the playground equipment right now. The disc golf course updates are underway and will be done prior to the court upgrades.
