About the Project

The Township of Wilmot is preparing a new Official Plan to replace the current Township Official Plan and Regional Official Plan.

The Township’s current Official Plan was approved in 2004, and updated in 2017 with approval in 2019. As of January 1, 2025, the Region of Waterloo is an upper-tier municipality without planning responsibilities. As such, the Region’s Official Plan became the responsibility of the Township as it applies to lands in Wilmot. The new Official Plan will replace the existing Township and Regional Official Plans and align with the 2024 Provincial Planning Statement.

The new Official Plan will build on the Township’s long-term vision for growth with a renewed focus on complete communities. This will include a range and mix of housing, employment opportunities, schools, recreational amenities, options for servicing, roads and active transportation while protecting natural heritage features and farmland.

To support the success of the project, the Township has retained Nethery Planning and their project team to assist in preparing the new Official Plan.
