Upgrades at North Strasburg Creek began in September

14 November 2025

Work began in late September at North Strasburg Creek to restore its natural flow and reduce erosion. The project is part of the City’s efforts to prepare for more frequent and intense storms caused by climate change. These upgrades are designed to:

  • Reduce future flood risks,
  • Protect and improve water quality,
  • Address erosion,
  • Restore habitat for fish, amphibians, and birds, and
  • Protect infrastructure near the creek

During construction, we will remove the concrete channels and replace them with natural materials. At the same time, we will be adding trails along some sections of the creek. Some boulevards will be occupied, and visitors should follow all posted signs. Construction is expected to be finished by May 2026.

The final design for North Strasburg Creek was shaped by community feedback and supports the City’s efforts to prepare for climate change. With funding from the federal Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund, the project includes important infrastructure upgrades to help manage stormwater and reduce flood risks.
