Old Post Park is getting a new playground!

The City of Waterloo and neighbourhood partners are working together to replace the playground structure at Old Post Park. The city is designing site works, coordinating procurement and managing the installation of a new playground for the neighbourhood. Community representatives are fundraising to optimize the value of play equipment that will be installed in the playground. Please stay tuned for a link to the community fundraising page.

We anticipate the new playground will be completed in fall of 2021. The playground may include a variety of climbing elements, slides, and independent spring/spin toys, and will provide play opportunities for children ages 18 months to 12 years.

We rely on your feedback to guide the design of play equipment at the site. Please respond to the survey questions below and follow the project for updates. We want to ensure the playground is designed to meet the needs of the neighbourhood.

Engagement process:

The public engagement process will be divided into two phases.

The first phase will allow the neighborhood to provide feedback on desired play equipment, and accessibility needs. The tabulated responses from this engagement will be used by city staff to put out a call for playground equipment design services.

Based on the feedback provided, city staff will short-list the two best designs submitted by suppliers, and will share these so the neighbourhood can vote for its preferred playground equipment. This is the second phase of the engagement process and is anticipated to happen mid-April. We encourage you to follow this project to receive a notification of the voting period.

Thank you for supporting this project. We look forward to seeing the new community play space!

Will the new park be in the exact same spot? Will the current structure have to be removed before construction?

    smashley asked 12 days ago

Thank you for your question. The playground replacement will be located in the same area as the existing climbing structure and spring toy. The existing playground structures will be removed and replaced with new equipment as the existing equipment is nearing the end of its life span.
