Extended work hours for Ottawa Street Trunk Sanitary Sewer construction

25 April 2025

The City of Kitchener has hired Capital Sewer Services to repair the Ottawa Street trunk sanitary sewer and its maintenance holes from Old Chicopee Drive to Dreger Avenue and Graber Place. The project will involve lining the sewers and maintenance holes to strengthen them. To keep the sewer system running during the work, temporary bypass pumping will be used.

This is a complicated project. It includes setting up a bypass system that will take up part of Ottawa Street North. To finish the work as fast as possible and reduce disruptions for residents and traffic, crews may need to work overnight or early in the morning.

To allow for the bypass system and pumping, the City of Kitchener has approved a noise exemption for the duration of the project.

There may be noise from:

  • generators
  • pumps
  • excavators
  • compactors
  • vehicle backup alarms

The contractor will try to limit the impact of this noise as much as possible. Lights may also be used at the site.
