We are developing a plan for the management, ecological restoration, and stewardship of the Huron Natural Area for the next 10 years.

Huron Natural Area is one of the largest natural spaces in the city, with more than 250 acres of protected forest and wetland, it is a habitat for many different flora and fauna species, supporting vital biodiversity in our city.

Huron Natural Area is an important place to many people. It provides spaces to walk, play and enjoy nature, has unique opportunities for education and research, provides recreational employment, and is a significant place for Indigenous communities.

Together we will develop the plan for the future of the area. This will include creating the vision for the area, a plan to protect the natural heritage system, Indigenous rights and interests, community needs, and evaluate the level of public access and nature-based recreation. The development of the Huron Natural Area Management Plan (HNAMP) will include a plan for community engagement and consultation, ecological descriptions and inventories, management needs and actions, and future direction.

Help us manage and restore Huron Natural Area!

To effectively manage and restore this area we are gathering data to understand the current conditions of the flora (plant life) and fauna (animals) using iNaturalist.

Create a free account, then take and upload images of any flora and fauna you see in the Huron Natural Area. They will be automatically added to our data base for the area. To see all the photos, visit our project Huron Natural Area Management.
