We are reviewing all playgrounds across the City of Kitchener to help plan future upgrades, replacements, and investments. The goal is to make sure playgrounds are safe, welcoming, inclusive, and well‑distributed so residents in every neighbourhood have access to great places to play.

This project is the City’s first comprehensive, city‑wide review of playgrounds. In the past, playground investments were planned mainly around maintenance and replacement schedules. This new approach combines technical review with community input to better understand how playgrounds are used, which spaces are most valued, and where improvements are needed most.

Every city playground will be assessed using consistent criteria, including:

  • Types of play and play value
  • Overall condition and appearance
  • Accessibility and inclusivity
  • Location and distance to other playgrounds

We are also considering how future investments support communities that may face greater barriers to accessing quality play spaces.

We want to hear from residents about their experiences with local playgrounds. Drop a pin on our interactive map below or at events and community spaces this spring.

Your feedback builds on earlier engagement that informed the Places & Spaces Parks Master Plan and adds important local insights.

Your input will be considered alongside technical findings to:

  • Help identify a potential hub playground in each Ward
  • Guide priorities for playground upgrades, replacements, or removals
  • Support fair, transparent decisions about future investments
  • Inform future capital budget planning

Your input will help us understand how playgrounds are used and experienced across different neighbourhoods – and help guide future investments in new and existing playgrounds.
