Temporary art installation at Lumen 2026

October 9, 2026

With the feedback collected earlier this fall, we worked with local artists Germaine Liu and Mark Zurawinski to create a temporary art installation at this year's Lumen Festival.

The installation, Inflow Polyphony, was inspired by community responses to imagining the future of the William Street Pump House. It featured a series of videos representing the themes of the feedback projected onto the building. Common threads throughout the feedback included:

  • incorporating green space, such as a native pollinator garden or community garden
  • providing versatile art and event spaces, like for galleries, workshops, performances or markets
  • honouring the historic water use and incorporating the site's heritage in a new gathering space.

During Lumen, we also asked people to write on glow-in-the-dark sticky notes about their ideas for the pump station and add their own thoughts and artwork to create a pop-up gallery.

With the feedback collected, our next steps are to create the requirements for a Request for an Expression of Interest (REOI) to invite organizations to share how they can bring the ideas to life.
