The construction is now complete, and the project has entered the maintenance phase. This means we will inspect all aspects of the work done to ensure that it meets our standards. We will also address any deficiencies. Once this phase is complete, we will add a final layer of surface asphalt. This is usually about two years from the start of maintenance. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at 519-741-2345 or engineering@kitchener.ca

  • Stage 1 and 2 Resident Reconnect

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

We know it’s been some time since we’ve been in contact. We wanted to reconnect with you to see if you have any feedback, concerns or questions. If you’re curious about the construction work, we’re doing, or what work is happening next, we can answer your questions.

Our construction inspector, Aden Finlay wears a white hard helmet with AECOM on it and is on site full-time. The inspector is the first person to contact on site. If you require special access to your property for moving, or are waiting for a special delivery, give the inspector enough notice so your request can be accommodated, if possible.

We know the work during a reconstruction project is an inconvenience for you to get to your property. Please let us know if you need more temporary parking passes. We hope your waste is collected on the regular day as normal, and that you’ve been able to place your waste by the curbside by 7 a.m. The contractor should be relocating your waste as required and returning any containers belonging to you in a timely fashion. If there are any issues, please let us know.

    Phase 1:

    • Driveway asphalt installed May 8th
    • Landscaping (topsoil, sod & retaining walls) operations to begin shortly.

    Phase 2:

    • Underground work at the intersection of Markwood Dr. & north entrance to Rossford Cr. Is scheduled to be completed early this week.
    • Reminder for residents to exit with vehicles through Phase 1 section of Rossford Cr – please note that there will still be various crews for retaining walls, landscaping, and driveway asphalt in Phase 1 – your patience is appreciated. For the safety of the workers and your neighbours, please drive at a slow speed through the site.
    • Temporary walkway – the temporary walkway that is bounded by the orange construction fence is the safest place to walk. Please note that Gedco has started servicing operations and the walkway will be affected temporarily during this time but will be restored following any disturbances. Please use the temporary walkway as your main path of travel and take additional care while traveling through site.

    On Street Parking

During reconstruction, temporary parking permits will be issued to displaced residents to allow on-street parking when needed. The permits will list streets for parking options as you will be permitted to park longer than 3 hours and overnight. Permits are to be displayed on the dash of your vehicle. Ensure that your vehicle is parked in permitted areas only and that you do not interfere with any construction operations. We communicate with the Bylaw Enforcement team to ensure residents displaced by construction are noted, although illegal parking and/or safety related issues will continue to be enforced. If you require parking enforcement, please contact 519-741-2345. If you have any inquiries, please speak to the site inspector for further direction

Stage 2 work is scheduled to begin April 17. This work will commence with temporary watermain, existing asphalt removal and concrete curb removal April 18 and 19. Additional notices will be distributed detailing specific milestones as we progress.

We’re happy to discuss any concerns or questions that you may have. Please do not hesitate to contact the city’s project manager by phone at 519-741-2200 ext. 7812. or by email at jeff.riedl@kitchener.ca.

  • Update on project status for Stage 1

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

As we approach the Spring 2023, we wanted to let you know the city’s hired road constructor, Gedco Excavating Ltd., will be carrying over the following work to be completed.

    • Concrete curbs are to be installed on April 17. Concrete sidewalk and driveway aprons are to be installed the week of April 24.
    • Where temporary asphalt was placed for driveways or driveway ramps, this will be removed and reinstated the week of May 1.
    • After concrete and asphalt work is complete, landscaping will follow with topsoil and sod the week of May 1 into the week of May 8.
    • Once sod is placed there is a 60-day maintenance/warranty period by the road constructor. A letter will be issued to residents from the city once sod is placed outlining the 60-day maintenance/warranty period of sod.

All the above-mentioned works are weather dependent, and these dates may be adjusted based on the weather conditions in the coming weeks. If there are any major changes to the scheduled items mentioned above additional notices will be distributed at that time.

In the summer of 2023, the city will perform a check of all items and note any items that are unsatisfactory, which we will track for the contractor to address accordingly. Our construction inspector wears a white hard helmet and is on site full-time. The inspector is the first person to contact on site. If you require special access to your property for any reason, please give the inspector enough notice so your request can be accommodated, if possible.

We appreciate your continued patience throughout this project. If you have any questions concerning this matter, please do not hesitate to contact the city’s Project Manager at phone number 519-741-2200 ext. 7812 or email at jeff.riedl@kitchener.ca .

  • Update on Project Status for Stage 1 & 2

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

As we approach the end of the 2022 construction season, we wanted to let you know what the road constructor, Gedco Excavating Ltd., will be completing this year and what will be carried over to the spring of 2023.

    Stage 1

    • Asphalt will be complete ahead of curb to provide hard surface for winter maintenance – curbs and sidewalk will be installed in spring 2023 and a second lift of asphalt to complete the road at that time.
    • As part of the 2022 work, temporary asphalt will be placed for driveways & driveway ramps, this will be removed and reinstated with concrete aprons in the spring of 2023; upon concrete suppliers and/or asphalt suppliers opening for the construction season and upon favourable weather conditions.
    • Landscaping will follow with topsoil and sod. It is unknown when sod is available in the spring of 2023, but when it becomes available, we expect our road constructor to start work spring 2023. Once sod is placed there is a 60-day maintenance/warranty period by the road constructor. A letter will be issued to residents from the city, once sod is placed, outlining the 60-day maintenance/warranty period of sod.

    Stage 2

    • All Stage 2 work in its entirety will be carried over until weather conditions allow in the Spring 2023
    • In the spring of 2023, the city will perform a check of all items and note any items that are unsatisfactory, which we will track for the contractor to address accordingly.

We appreciate your continued patience throughout this project. If you have any questions concerning this matter, please do not hesitate to contact the city’s Project Manager at phone number 519-741-2200 ext. 7812 or email at jeff.riedl@kitchener.ca .

  • Cold Weather - Temporary Water Supply

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

As we approach the colder weather season, freezing of temporary water supply lines becomes a concern. Our contractor will take measures to try to prevent freezing. These could include use of insulated blankets or leaving a port on the system open to keep the water moving.

However, based on the current weather forecast, the individual connections of properties affected by this road reconstruction project are at risk of freezing. If you live at an affected property you will receive a letter from us.

If you live at an affected property, to help prevent your water service from freezing, during sub-zero days and nights please keep a tap running. Water should be left to run in a stream of no more than a pencil width, preferably the cold-water faucet in the laundry room (ensure the tub is free of debris).

To offset the costs of the water used for this, affected properties will receive a $40 credit on an upcoming Kitchener Utilities bill.

You will be notified through a second letter when the risk of freezing of the water service has passed and you can stop running the stream of water.

If you would like to receive updates for this project as they become available, please subscribe using the 'Stay Informed' section of this page and you will be added to the email list for updates.

  • Construction on Rossford scheduled to start week of July 4, 2022

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

The first phase of the construction on Rossford Crescent is scheduled to start the week of July 4, 2022. This will involve the south leg of the street from Markwood to the Gzowski Park entrance. The construction site will be set up and a temporary watermain will be installed this week.

If you have any questions, please contact Jeff Riedl. Construction Project Manager at 519-741-2200 Ext. 7812 or Jeff.Riedl@kitchener.ca.

  • Contractor introduction, parking and pre-condition inspection

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

The City of Kitchener has awarded Gedco Excavating Ltd. the contract for reconstruction work on Rossford Cr. (Markwood Dr. to Markwood Dr.). Construction is scheduled to start on/or about June 20, 2022 with an anticipated completion on/or about December 8, 2022.

The City of Kitchener has retained an Engineering Consultant to act as Project Manager for this project and they should be your first point of contact should you have any questions, concerns or require special access to your residence during construction. Their contact information can be found in the contact list provided at the end of this letter. However, as the City Project Manager I remain a key point of contact; my contact information has been provided in the contact list. A Construction Inspector will be on site daily while the contractor is working. Should you have any questions or concerns while the work is in progress, the Construction Inspector can be identified by the white hardhat and can be approached at any time or contacted using the number provided in the contact list. Should you experience an after-hours emergency, please contact the 24 hour Contact Centre at 519-741-2345.

The Contractor will start the project with the setup of their temporary watermain and by completing the pre-condition survey.

    Pre-Condition Survey of Structures

On heavy construction projects, it is the City of Kitchener’s standard practice to offer to inspect any buildings that might be affected by construction activities before construction starts. If during or after construction residents/tenants experience any concerns with their property, the information from the pre-construction survey will prove very helpful in quickly and accurately resolving any claims, should they arise.

The pre-condition survey will be conducted by Englobe and if they haven’t already, they will be contacting you within the next few days to arrange for this survey. This survey includes an inspection of the interior and exterior of each property to document the existing condition prior to construction. In large high-rise apartment buildings the ground floor area will be inspected, but the individual apartment units above will not be inspected.

We appreciate that some tenants/residents may not want a pre-condition survey of their home and we would like to stress that you are under no obligation to do so. Should this be the case, please advise the representative when they call.

You will likely feel some vibrations during the routine operation of construction equipment; however, studies have shown that these vibrations are much less severe than the vibration level likely to cause structural damage. We do recommend that you remove light, fragile or delicate objects from shelves when construction activity is taking place adjacent to your property.

Should you experience any problems during construction, please contact me immediately and I’ll address or direct your concern to the contractor if needed. If immediate action is needed, such as an issue with your services and City Staff or Representatives are not immediately available, you are welcome to contact the contractor directly.

Should situations arise during or after this construction project, the following contact information and telephone numbers are provided for your convenience.

  • Letter to Residents

As part of the City of Kitchener’s ongoing efforts to provide exceptional service, staff has scheduled road and sewer improvements in your neighbourhood on the street(s) listed above.

These improvements are scheduled to begin, on or about, May 2022, with an estimated completion date on or about November 2022. You will be notified closer to the date construction is scheduled to start on your section of the street, and also how long access to your driveway will be affected.

The specific improvements scheduled for this street are:

    • Upgrade the existing storm sewer, sanitary sewer and water mains.
    • Replace existing sanitary and water services from the new mains to the property line.
    • Curb and gutter, and sidewalk on one side will be installed.
    • Upgrade the asphalt roadway.
    • Replace all driveway ramp entrances

These improvements are being done to upgrade the existing, deteriorated underground services and above-ground surface features, in order to prevent future system failure. The project will be funded through utility user fees and will not result in a direct charge to the homeowner.

In order to carry out these improvements, it will be necessary to close this street to through traffic. Prior to any road closure, signs will be posted on the approaching streets advising motorists of the date and the duration of the closure.

Pedestrian access will be maintained to all properties at all times and vehicular access to all properties within the construction area will be maintained for as long as possible. On-street parking permits, which will allow parking on adjacent side streets, will be hand-delivered to affected homes before vehicular access is cut off.
