Changes coming to Schneider Shoemaker Creeks

6 November 2025

As we get ready to start construction on the creek, you’ll notice a few activities happening in the project area over the next few months. Here’s what to expect:

  • Site Preparation: Some city-owned buildings in the project area will be demolished to make more space for the creek expansion. 134 Sydney St S, 140 Sydney St S, 405-409 Nyberg St, and 124 Ottawa St S are all planned to be demolished between October 2025 and early 2026.
  • Road Closures: Nyberg St between Ottawa St S and Borden Ave S will be permanently closed starting mid-November. Informational signage with more precise dates will be posted at least 2 weeks in advance of the closure.
  • Topsoil Stockpile: A designated area will be created to begin collecting the large amount of topsoil needed for the project.
  • Peak times for construction: will likely be between 7 am and 7 pm from Monday to Friday. During this time, there will be more construction workers and dump trucks in the area. These activities are expected to continue into 2026 until enough topsoil has been collected for the creek restoration work.

Phase 1 of the creek naturalization construction will be from Kent Ave to Sydney Street South and is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2026. Construction is anticipated to last for approximately 18 months.
