Construction update

30 May 2025

Construction of the pond and creek within Trillium Valley Park is almost complete. There are more trees, shrubs and pond plantings to complete that are currently unavailable at the nursery. These are expected to be available mid to late June.

The major storm this spring caused some erosion of soil into the creek that has accumulated near the headwall of the flood control structure, just upstream of the culvert under Columbia Street. This soil/sediment may be removed following the spring spawning season. The City would like to try to coordinate this work with the installation of the Oil-Grit Separator, to minimize neighbourhood disturbance.

The installation of the Oil-grit Separator unit will be scheduled once studies to address poor soil conditions are complete.

In the interim, the area on the northwest corner of Columbia and Gatestone will be used for equipment staging and materials storage when the contractor returns to install the oil-grit separator. The City is aware that the section of roadway where the oil-grit separator is to be installed has sunk. The road will be monitored and patched further if necessary. The boulevard has been restored temorarily to ease the tripping hazard and prevent erosion. All of these areas will be properly restored with curb, asphalt, topsoil and seed/sod following installation of the oil-grit separator.
