Notice: Water shutdown October 31

October 30, 2026

Due to an unforeseen incident on Thursday, October 29, not all final connections between the new watermain and existing system could be completed.

We're currently waiting on water sampling results from yesterday. Once we have the results, the contractor will complete the last connection on Saturday, October 31.

Installation of new valves has limited the shutdown. Notices have already been handed out so please check your mail or front door of your building to determine if you’re within the impacted area. The shutdown planned for Saturday is the final shutdown for this construction season.

Due to unexpected third party utilities and impacts from LRT construction, another shutdown and some construction work will be required in the intersection of King and Union Streets in the Spring of 2027. Due to the location of new valves, this shutdown should only affect properties in Phase 1C (King to Mary) and a few properties on King Street, southeast of the work.

Water shutdowns for Union Street Phase 2 in 2027 should predominantly affect properties east/northeast of Willow Street. Please note these are shutdowns related to work on Union Street. There will also be water shutdowns affecting properties on and near Herbert Street when reconstructed in 2027.

Information Regarding Leaf Pickup

Leaf pickup will occur on streets around Union Street as noted on the City’s website and on signs in the neighbourhood. In general, when streets are closed for construction, the contractor is responsible for removing leaves. However, as there are no boulevard trees on Union Street within Phase 1, there should not be any leaves to be removed.
