Lobby your local government to improve the safety of their road designs

Road safety is a shared responsibility, but municipal governments and their traffic engineers have been shirking that responsibility for far too long! It's imperative that we all lobby those local governments to do better. They must abandon the typical North American road design philosophy, and adopt provably safer designs based on a Safe Systems approach. Much safer road infrastructure is possible! It has already been invented. We just need to get the traffic engineering industry to adopt it, and that starts with insisting that the municipal governments that employ those traffic engineers exert their control by mandating safe road designs for new construction -- and also fund infrastructure projects to modify all the existing roadways, which are currently inherently unsafe.

For bonus points, you could also lobby Professional Engineers Ontario to try to get this supposedly self-regulating profession to take its stated ethical obligations to society seriously.
