In the first phase of public engagement, we learned that safety and maintenance concerns and the need for proactive inspections are key priorities for residents.

Many residents emphasized the importance of regular inspections of apartment buildings and expressed frustration with the current complaint-driven system, which they felt places too much responsibility on tenants – especially students.

Based on this feedback, we’re proposing a new Apartment Licensing Bylaw to focus on proactive inspections and publicly available evaluation scores for each registered building.
