Introduction:

The City of Waterloo is planning infrastructure improvements on Whitmore Drive (from Lee Avenue to Bridge Street West) to renew aging infrastructure and improve the long-term reliability of water, stormwater and road services in the neighbourhood. Residents and property owners are encouraged to follow this project for information and updates. You're welcome to provide feedback through this project page, or by attending an upcoming public meeting. Community input will help inform the final design prior to construction.

Proposed improvements:

  • Installation of a new municipal watermain within the roadway corridor.
  • Replacement of water services and upgrades to fire hydrant coverage.
  • Installation of new storm sewers where required.
  • Full reconstruction of Whitmore Drive, including a new road structure and asphalt surface, while maintain the rural cross section.
  • Replacement of road and driveway culverts.
  • Installation of new front-yard water service connections for properties currently serviced from rear-yard watermains.
  • Restoration of disturbed areas, including topsoil and sod, and reinstatement of affected driveways and walkways.

Most changes will occur below ground through replacement of aging infrastructure. Visible improvements will include roadway reconstruction and additional fire hydrants to improve fire protection. Limited tree trimming may be required in select locations during construction.

Construction is tentatively scheduled for 2027, subject to approvals and budget confirmation. Additional information will be shared with residents before construction begins.
