The Woolwich Memorial Centre (WMC) opened in September of 2009 and houses 2 NHL sized rinks, 2 pools, community centre rooms, a track, and more. The WMC is a hub of the Woolwich community.

In 2019, Staff applied for and were successful in receiving $1,980.000 in funding to replace the refrigeration system at the WMC through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP): Community, Culture and Recreation Stream. The project scope includes replacement of the refrigeration system and natatorium (pool) dehumidification equipment.

Cimco Refrigeration will act as the General Contractor for the project, overseeing all components such upgrades to the buildings electrical system, structural engineering review, and removal/replacement of the northwest exterior wall to accommodate the removal of the existing plant and installation of the new equipment.

Township Staff have engaged GHD consultants to complete a noise analysis of the proposed equipment replacements that will be installed outside the facility to ensure compliance with Ministry of Environment (MOE) noise requirements.

Replacement of the refrigeration package will occur between April and September of 2023 as to not disrupt ice operations. Replacement of the pool dehumidifier will occur during the spring of 2023 during the annual pool shut down. This project was endorsed by Council on August 8th, 2022. Please refer to the attached award report.

The replacement of the refrigeration system as well as natatorium dehumidification equipment is in line with the Townships strategic plan:

  1. Best Managed and Governed Municipality: Provide Exceptional Customer Service & Commit to Maintaining High Standards for Municipal Service Delivery.
  2. Infrastructure Maintenance and Transportation Planning: Goal is to Optimize the Use of Municipal Infrastructure.
