Trees are a vital part of Kitchener’s urban landscape. They clean our air, provide shade, support mental well-being and offer habitat for local wildlife. While the City of Kitchener actively maintains over 72,000 trees on public land, trees on private property also play a crucial role in growing and sustaining our urban tree canopy.

The City of Kitchener is updating its Private Tree Conservation Bylaw, which protects trees on private properties from damage, injury or destruction. We are consulting residents, industry representatives, and advisory committees to inform revisions to the bylaw. Your input will help guide what properties and trees the bylaw will apply to.

We want to better understand:

  • How residents care for and manage trees on their own properties
  • Experiences with tree planting, maintenance, and removal on private property
  • Perspectives on the current City’s Private Tree Bylaw
